18 May International Museum Day celebrations

A local soccer tournament, the Transport riders Cup 2010 has been launched by the museum board. This initiative has been taken by die Ceres Togryers museum (transport riders Museum) for celebrating International Museum Day on 18 May.  The theme for this year’s celebration is Social Harmony and the role that museums play in bringing it about in their community. Sport is one way that social harmony and social cohesion can be brought about in communities. By linking this theme to the enthusiasm there is already for the World Soccer Cup, the Board of Trustees decided that this fun event would be a good way to bring our community together and create even a greater enthusiasm for the sport among our youth in Witzenberg. Four schools that would be involved at the series are Nduli Primary school, St Marks, Ceres Primary school and Bella Vista Primary school.  The series will consist of three matches of which the the final will be played at the Ceres Sport grounds on 1 June 2010. A floating trophy will be handed over to the winner of the series aswel as soccer jerseys.  We hope that this event will create an even bigger interest in the game and even will grow to Club level.
